Risa’s feature documentary on surviving Kamikaze pilots, “Wings of Defeat,” received international acclaim and aired on PBS in 2009. Risa received her Masters in film production and education from New York University in 1999 where she served as the Associate Director of the Asian/Pacific/ American Studies Program and Institute.

Outside of her work in film, she remains active in the Asian American community serving as an advisor for the Chinatown Youth Initiative and a member of JAJA (Japanese Americans, Japanese in America). Risa is a 2009 Japan Foundation research fellowship recipient.
