Olie Westheimer is the founder and executive direc- tor of Brooklyn Parkinson Group. She has worked as an editor and writer specializing in medical subjects, was Executive Director of the Association for Research in Nervous and Mental Disease, and has an MA degree in applied linguistics from Columbia University Teachers College.

Olie’s knowledge of dance and understanding of Parkinson’s disease (PD) led to the development in 2001 of Dance for PD classes in collaboration with Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG). Together, BPG and MMDG now train dancers and administrators of PD groups in how to develop and teach Dance for PD classes modeled on the classes in Brooklyn.
